We’ve all stood at the nail salon, staring at the polish display, overwhelmed by row after row of colors on the wall. You don’t know what to pick, so you choose the same safe red or nude—again. While those classics always work, why not update your look with the season’s amethyst, emerald, cobalt, or silver hues?

Pick a color family and stick with it for both your manicure and pedicure, says manicurist Lisa Jachno, who works with A-listers like Julia Roberts. It’s the modern way of matching your fingers and toes. Whichever palette strikes your mood, you can’t go wrong with “light, shiny shades on your hands and deep metallics on your feet,” adds Jachno. Pair a pale purple mani with Dior’s lacquered cuff, or a seafoam green pedicure with Givenchy’s mint-and-blush ankle-strap sandals. Edgy blues will pop with Gucci’s crystal bracelets, and white or gunmetal polish will look divine with Dolce & Gabbana’s pewter clutch.
