Linda Evangelista’s Beauty Must-Haves

By Amber Kallor

Linda Evangelista was the ultimate catwalk chameleon. With her constant flurry of transformations, she inspired waves of women to try a daring dye job or chop their hair to chin length and shorter. Nearly 30 years after arriving on the scene, Evangelista’s career continues to evolve, with Dolce & Gabbana tapping her as the face of its latest cosmetic franchise: The Lift Foundation and The Primer. At age 49, Evangelista represents the sophisticated woman fashion labels (such as Moschino, which captured the supermodel in its Fall ’14 campaign) and beauty brands (like NARS, Marc Jacobs Beauty, and L’Oréal Paris, all of which have signed more “mature” spokespeople recently) are currently coveting. As for the pressures of aging in front of the camera, the super insists there aren’t any: “I lost my father this year—I’ve lost so many people and experienced death, but it changes everything and makes you just think:  I want to get old—really old. I want to age and I don’t want to look young, I just want to look good.”

Here, the icon shares her favorite products, the women who inspire her, and the reason she just says no to juicing.

Dolce & Gabbana
Perfect Reveal Lifting Foundation, $72

"Even when I’ve bought foundation in the past, I always [asked the people working the counter] to help me because you can’t tell [if the shade is right] with those store lights. My advice is to go in front of a window with a mirror—that’s how you’re going to see the truth and no surprises. And always blend." Evangelista’s go-to application tool: "Fingers!"

Anthelios Face Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 45, $30
Dolce & Gabbana
The Primer Sheer Radiance Make Up Base With Sunscreen SPF 30, $64

The super’s best beauty secret: “Sunscreen.” How she learned about its skin-saving powers? “Hormones, melasma…life.” Her bi-seasonal go-tos: “In the winter I use the Dolce & Gabbana Primer—it’s one step and out the door! And in the summer, Anthelios.”

Biologique Recherche
Lotion P50, $89

"I just got into Biologique Recherche. I’m big on exfoliating."

Environ
Ionzyme C-Quence 1, $112

"I truly believe in vitamin C and vitamin A. I think vitamin C protects you from further damage, and since I’ve been using it religiously, I saw a change for the better in my skin and its color."

Givenchy
Phenomen’Eyes Mascara, $30

The catwalk legend’s favorite feature to play up: “Eyes. I like the Givenchy round, ball-tip mascara—I think it’s easier to get in there.”

T3
Featherweight Luxe 2i Hair Dryer, $250

image

Her biggest beauty splurge: “I think a good hair dryer and a good flatiron that [generates] ions. I have the T3. I know they’re expensive, but I think they’re a good investment because they don’t fry your hair.”

Hamadi Organics
Shea Hair Cream, $23

image

"For over 10 years I’ve used Jamal Hammadi’s Shea Hair Cream, and that’s what I use on my son. It’s how I got my hair to grow out. I love it! Iuse it for styling and as a leave-in conditioner.”

City Lips
Advanced Formula Lip Plumpers, $40 each

image

"City Lips is plumping and moisturizing. I like tacky stuff on my lips, I don’t like slippery."

Vitamins

image

"I take vitamins, but I’m against juice. I believe that the molecules get destroyed from the heat of the [blender’s] motor and you’re left with sugar, acid, and water—no fiber. I would rather take a green drink with spirulina. I don’t get juicing because it bloats you. I take vitamin D, probiotics, a multivitamin, and sometimes a fish oil."

Beauty Icons: Katharine Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly

image

"I’ve always looked to the actresses of the ’50s and ’60s: Katharine Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Ava Gardner. I never saw paparazzi pictures of them, so whenever they were photographed, they were presentable, chic, glamorous, and groomed. They looked like they put effort into it, and that’s what I look up to."
