Lauren Conrad: 'I Probably am Pretty Basic'

Lauren Conrad has come a long way from her days on The Hills crying over troubled friendships and her on-again-off-again love, Brody Jenner. The reality star has since become an entrepreneur, launching The Beauty Department, creating fashion lines LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s and Paper Crowns, and becoming a bestselling author. She’s also now happily married to musician William Tell and gracing the October cover of Cosmopolitan.

Despite her success, many people call Conrad “basic.” But according to Conrad’s new interview, she’s fine with the label. “I probably am pretty basic. But I’m also a pretty happy person, so that’s OK with me,” Conrad told Cosmopolitan. Indeed, Hills fans must be thrilled with her fairy tale ending and moving on from her ex Brody Jenner. When asked about Jenner hosting his own sex and dating advice show, she seemed deliberately aloof. “My husband told me [about it]. I didn’t know!…He has a lot of experience…so sure, depending on what kind of advice you want.”

In general, Conrad seems to be taking the high road and distancing herself from her dramatic past. “When I did television, scandal was always around me. And I think one of the best things [about that] for me is that your life becomes more big picture. You have to develop a thick skin really quickly. It toughened me up, which is good.” Clearly she learned some valuable lessons, because her career trajectory has not only made her happy, it’s earned her millions of dollars. “Television was just sort of an accident…I never felt really strongly about it. But fashion is something I feel passionate about. If I hadn’t done TV, I still would have ended up in the [fashion] industry, but I definitely wouldn’t be in the position I am now.”

Lastly, Cosmo asked Conrad if she had any regrets with former bestie Heidi Montag, who claims she forgave Lauren for “trying to ruin [her] life.” “I’m not really involved in that anymore I don’t think it has anything to do with me,” Conrad told the magazine. “You just have to focus on the good people in your life. Focusing on what you lose is only going to make you sad.”
