Some know Kenya Moore as a former beauty pageant winner, and others have been hooked on her for using the quote “Gone With the Wind fabulous” on Bravo’s hit television series Real Housewives of Atlanta. While she’s shown off healthy-looking voluminous hair the last few years, a recent photo she shared, in which she wears what many are calling a wig, has some calling out the reality star on her alleged faux strands.

On Instagram, Moore shared a selfie taken in a gym setting with middle-parted, long, silky straight hair. Her caption read, “Motivational Mondays It’s not what they call you it’s what you answer to.” Since she posted it, her photo has garnered more than 31,000 likes and sparked lots of conversation, with more than 675 comments and counting. While her intent seemed to be to inspire people to start their weeks off by working out or hitting the gym, many people remarked that the 46-year-old appeared to be wearing a wig.

Reacting to Moore’s post, Celebrity Insider pointed out that one person questioned, “Is that a lace front, that is weird?” Another shared, “Issa a wig, doesn’t she sell hair products?”

Moore, indeed, is the CEO of Kenya Moore Haircare, which includes a complete line of hair-growth-stimulating products. It offers everything from vitamins and shampoos to restorative masks and serums that include ingredients such as biotin and coconut oil to help promote healthy long hair.

The fact that the Real Housewives star has a hair care line and usually shows off her long luxurious locks left people baffled. However, in reality, she may have been wearing the wig to help give her natural hair a break to restore.

Many women turn to hair extensions or wigs as a form of protection for their natural hair. If you choose to wear your real hair straight, constant high-impact fitness routines will cause it to frizz — bigtime. Then you run the risk of heat damage by attempting to use hot tools to straighten your strands every time you work out.

Wearing a full wig while you bust a sweat will allow you to avoid frying your hair. Also, if you feel the need to run to the salon after every other cardio class, wearing a wig will save you some trips, as wigs are pretty easy to maintain on your own.

On the other hand, as someone who has worn wigs in the past, I can attest that they can cause your body to heat up a little faster than usual. It’s almost like wearing a hat during a workout. But then again, more sweating can equal more calorie shedding — if that’s what you’re into.

These days, hairpieces come in all different textures, colors, and lengths. There is pretty much something for everyone, and the more you are willing to spend, the better the quality and longevity.

Whether or not Moore was wearing a wig at the gym is up in the air, but if she was, she probably was just aiming to give her natural hair a rest so that when she took off the wig, her hair would still be long, strong, and beautiful.
