Kendall Jenner, Gray Hair in Your 20s Is No Reason to Panic

Growing old is inescapable, even for the seemingly eternally young celebrities bouncing around our screens via Snapchat, Instagram, and every other new platform they find to with to show off their lives. Famously young model Kendall Jenner is no exception. Her Snapchat fans commiserated with the model early this week when she discovered what looks like a gray hair, as reported by The Daily Mail.

In the midst of a head massage and style appointment, Jenner pondered a pale strand of hair plucked from her head: “It’s blonde right?” she asked.

But, is it really the time to panic? Though she’s a mere 20 years old, finding gray hair in your tresses isn’t uncommon, and the primary culprit is genetics. Though one would be hard pressed to find other silver locks in the Jenner-Kardashian brood. Another often cited reason for going gray: stress. One only need take a quick look at another famous graying personality to see what toll daily stress takes on one’s natural color.

Yes, being a young adult in the spotlight can be stressful, but likely nothing like the toil of leading the free world. Additionally, nutrition and diet may play in role in early onset silver fox syndrome. Jenner may want to make sure she’s getting enough protein and vitamin B12.

Yet, if she dares, going gray is something many celebs and regular folks are embracing more and more these days. Ty Alexander, fashion and style expert and blogger of Gorgeous In Grey, herself went gray in her teens:

“We’ve taught women for centuries that gray hair is a death sentence to our hair follicles… I try to encourage women who are going gray to embrace their hair. Coloring and covering up your gray is not only a weekly annoyance but it can be very damaging to your hair.”

If Jenner decides to cover it up – as hinted by her Snapchat panic – a few gray hairs on her head can be a relatively easy fix. According to New York City-based celebrity stylist Adrian Fanus she has a number choices, including adding color: “Add highlights to the roots to cover it up,” advises Fanus. But color is temporary fix and one that will require that constant upkeep and potential damage that Alexander warned of. Alternatively, Jenner could find a happy medium and begin to change her default hair style to de-emphasize the potential gray. “Tie your hair in a bun for a nonchalant look – that casual, rebellious, effortless look. Just make sure your roots aren’t exposed.” Though the jury is out on plucking those pesky grays, Fanus points out that it’s “not as painful as plucking your eyebrows.”

Plenty of options abound, whether you’re erasing the gray from existence or embracing it. Whichever way Jenner decides to go, we’re pretty sure she’ll be just fine.
