Kate Middleton Uses a Hairnet Again

Fact: Kate Middleton has flawless hair. There’s never a hair out of place and for two good reasons:

(1) When it’s down and doing that perfect duchess blowout thing, the wind gods are with her.

(2) She’s wearing a hairnet to keep her coif in place.

This isn’t new news though, especially since the Duchess of Cambridge was seen wearing a hairnet to keep her hair looking Pinterest-worthy (below, taken in France this June).

That said, she busted out her old secret weapon yesterday, wearing a hairnet while in the Netherlands. It’s kind of hard to see, but the arrows below point to exactly where the net hits. It was probably windy there, so she needed extra reinforcement - plus, that style looks like it could unravel at any time:

TBH, wearing a hairnet is actually quite smart of her, because it beats using a whole can of Aquanet to keep all of your hairs in place. Especially when you’re out all day and most likely don’t have a glam squad at the ready like the Kardashians.

However, like Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé, the Duchess is in the public eye under scrutiny at all times, and has paparazzi taking her picture with a lens as long as Rapunzel’s braid. So, if she doesn’t wear a hairnet and goes out in a braided, knotted, twisted style, hairs could start unraveling (see below). Which, to a mere mortal or celeb is normal, and most of the time celebrated (#Bedhead #PerfectlyUndone), I can imagine that to a royal it’s probably not the look you’re going for.

Plus, hairnets are more widely used these days in fashion shows to keep hair in a unique shape, to prevent your hair from blowing around, and to keep your look intact on the red carpet. So, it’s not that weird that she keeps using one. Honestly, think of a hairnet as a not-so-visible support bra for your hairstyle - everyone could benefit from wearing one.

Even the Queen wears them:

If you’re worried your updo is going to unravel and want to assure your hairs stay in place all night long, use Kate’s trick. Simply pick up a hairnet that matches your hair color at your local beauty supply store (like Ricky’s), and after your style is complete, lay it over your updo and pin it into the style. Voila! Your hair will look picture-perfect just like Kate’s (and the Queen’s)!
