Kate Hudson’s Snapchat Makes It Very Clear That Men and Women View Aging Differently

In case you needed another example of why men and women are so drastically different, Kate Hudson and her brother Oliver made it very clear for fans in a Snapchat that was posted yesterday. Both Kate and Oliver recorded themselves on Snapchat while talking with each other about aging, and their views couldn’t be more polar opposite.

Unsurprisingly, Kate expressed how important her anti-aging routine was, and couldn’t help but to point out that she felt that her brother was “so embarrassing with his leathery skin” and that he looked so much older than she did. Oliver didn’t seem to mind though, showing just how different the two siblings (and perhaps men and women) view the aging process.

To push her point forward, Kate put on an LED Infrared Light Therapy Face Mask, meant to kill acne-causing bacteria, build collagen and reduce inflammation. Then, she talked about how much she loves filters seemingly due to their powerful ability to make everyone look good—especially in Snapchat.

Of course, Kate and Oliver’s back and forth dialogue about aging might simply just be an example of siblings picking on each other. However, it does bring up an important point about ageism and gender.

As women get older, they’re typically seen as unhealthy, dependent and sexless. On the contrast, men can pull off a sophisticated, sexy look as they age, hence the “silver fox” nickname that’s given out so frequently to older men. How unfair is that?

Regardless, it’s interesting to see that celebrities aren’t untouched by the double standard that occurs with ageism and gender, so it’s sort of nice to see Kate chastise her brother for not keeping up such a rigid anti-aging skincare routine. It’ll take much more than a Snapchat conversation in order to change society’s perception on age, but it’s a good start nonetheless.
