Jules Wainstein Opens Up About Her Eating Disorder Past and the Road to Recovery on RHONY Reunion

In the history of Bravo's Real Housewives franchise, Jules Wainstein is the first Housewife to open up about her battle with an eating disorder. And it appears that comes with a lot of misconceptions.

On the second part of the Real Housewives of New York City reunion on Wednesday, Wainstein admitted that at one point, her disease was so bad she was told by doctors that she wasn't going to be able to have children.

"I was going to die," the 35-year-old said in tears.

Of course, Wainstein was able to seek treatment and is now the mother of two children: son Jagger, 8, and daughter Rio, 5.

But her behavior on RHONY confused people – especially fellow Housewives Bethenny Frankel and Carole Radziwill, who questioned her behavior around food.

One scene in which Wainstein baked kitchen utensils into a calzone even had Radziwill wondering whether Wainstein was in denial about her illness.

Addressing those comments, Wainstein clarified her recovery and treatment process.

"Recovery is not linear," she confessed. "I'm doing better than ever and I'm going to keep getting better and that's the key. My recovery goes in stages and I'm at that stage where I'm getting help for it."

She continued: "When I admitted that I threw up for three days? That was a really big moment for me. Thirteen years ago, I would have never been able to admit that. Someone in denial wouldn't have the balls to do that. That's got to be a major moment for anyone with an eating disorder. Secrets keep you sick."

Wainstein said she still gets help every single day for her problems, which includes seeing a therapist on a weekly basis even if she has nothing to say at the time.

Addressing the calzone scene, Wainstein claims it was a misunderstood joke and said it was "horrifying" to watch back.

"I just wanted to have fun," she said. "I was going through a lot of s--- in my personal life. I was alone. And that's really the honest truth. It was my sense of humor, and it just didn't work out."

For her part, Radziwill owned her comments and contextualized them.

"I honestly thought you had been to rehab 13 years ago and this was in your past," she said in her defense. "So when I saw all of this going on, I even said to you – 'Sometimes your friends who you've been around for lunches and dinners for 10 years, sometimes they don't see the stuff that sometimes new friends see.' I was seeing something. It wasn't targeted."

Wainstein was appreciative of the concern, but still felt Radziwill was unable to see her "really f---ing amazing" progress made on the matter.

"I appreciate what you are saying," Wainstein told her. "I appreciate it, I really do. [But] unless you see the low deep depths of where I was to how far I've come, you will never appreciate where I am right now."

Frankel also defended her behavior, though Wainstein appeared to be less forgiving.

The Skinnygirl mogul explained how Wainstein's eating disorder made her uncomfortable and how she felt she hadn't spoken negatively about Wainstein specifically. But when presented with evidence that said otherwise, Frankel ended up wavering into a battle over whether Wainstein was a good representation for Jewish people.

"I am sorry, that is so horrible and so wrong," Wainstein shot back. "What's wrong with you Bethenny? You can do whatever you want, but I'm telling you – you're going to look bad."

Earlier, Wainstein also spoke out about her split from her husband, Michael.

In June, Wainstein filed for divorce citing Michael's infidelity. The next day, police were called to the couple's home over alleged abuse claims, PEOPLE confirmed.

But when addressing both instances on the reunion, Wainstein stayed mum. She appeared to laugh off the abuse rumors, saying "You can't believe everything you read," but ultimately told host Andy Cohen "What's happening now, I really can't talk about it."

When it came to Frankel's allegations that she joined RHONY to get a divorce, Wainstein opened up. "I never signed a prenup – that's not true," she said.

As for her marriage, Wainstein claimed viewers had the wrong impression of how things were. "We had problems – we always worked it out," she said. "This year on the show wasn't what our marriage was for the last 10 years."

Part 3 of the The Real Housewives of New York City reunion airs Wednesday (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
