Johnny Depp Changes Amber Heard Tattoo to Something Really Gross

He has remained mum about domestic abuse allegations made by estranged wife Amber Heard. But Johnny Depp seems to be making a huge statement without saying a word. The tattoo on his knuckles that once read “SLIM” — his nickname for Heard — now reads “SCUM.”

Paparazzi shots tweeted by TMZ this weekend show the 52-year-old star looking carefree with the altered ink on his right hand in clear view. It’s reminiscent of the bicep tattoo he revised after his high-profile breakup with Winona Ryder in 1990 — from “Winona Forever” to “Wino Forever.” But somehow, given the messiness of his split from Heard, this cover-up seems a little more … severe.

The pair, who met when she was cast as his love interest in “The Rum Diary” in 2009 and started dating when Depp split from long-term love Vanessa Paradis in 2012, split in May when Heard filed for divorce then was granted a restraining order against the A-list actor, as reported by Yahoo Celebrity. The 30-year-old had showed up to court sans makeup and with a bruise on her right cheek that she claimed was a result of Depp smashing his iPhone into her face.

Depp’s friends and former partners have publicly come to the actor’s defense — including Paradis and close pal comedian Doug Stanhope — but the truth remains a mystery.

Another friend, Angelina Jolie, had reportedly warned the actor not to marry Heard, according to the International Business Times. Jolie could speak from experience about getting rid of a tattoo following a breakup: After her headline-making marriage to Billy Bob Thornton — during which the pair wore vials of each other’s blood as necklaces — Jolie had a sizable “Billy Bob” dragon tattoo removed from her left arm. She has since camouflaged the area by having the coordinates for the birthplaces of the members of her brood tattooed over it.

During her steamy, 18-year marriage to Antonio Banderas, actress Melanie Griffith had the Spanish star’s name tattooed into a heart on her upper arm — and removed it last year after the couple divorced.

The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco had a much shorter marriage — she was wed to tennis pro Ryan Sweeting for less than two years — and got an upper-back tattoo in Roman numerals to commemorate her 2013 wedding date. But in 2015, when the couple split, Cuoco had the ink covered up with an image of a moth. She later appeared on Ellen, confessing to comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, “I had to cover it, I had to cover it with the wings… Because, it was big enough to cover the numbers … big wings. … It’s just what I picked out when I was there.”

Plenty of other stars have regretted branding themselves in the name of love. Heidi Klum had ex-husband’s Seal’s name removed from her forearm in 2013. Denise Richards had her “Charlie” tat replaced with a fairy after splitting from Charlie Sheen. And tattoo artist Kat Von D went the extra mile when she had then-love Jesse James’ entire face etched onto her rib cage. The two have since split, and she had the epic ink removed.

But it’s former Cheetah Girls member Adrienne Bailon who takes the prize for most embarrassing placement of a love-interest tattoo. In 2008, she had then-boyfriend Rob Kardashian’s famous name tattooed on … her butt. She sat on the decision to have it removed for a puzzling six years.
