Jessica Chastain’s Asymmetric Lob at the 2016 Met Gala

Jessica Chastain went with a look you don’t normally see for the Met Gala: a ballgown paired with straight, just-below-the-shoulder length bob (otherwise known as a “lob”). The mix of blue, beautiful gown and smooth, red hair was absolutely striking.

Hairstylist Renato Campora worked with Chastain with the goal of “show[ing] off her asymmetrical haircut and counterbalanc[ing] the grandeur of the gown.”

To get the look, Campora applied Nexxus New York Salon Care Mousse Plus Volumizing Foam to her hair while it was still wet, to create a foundation to build on. He then carved out a deep side part and rough dried her hair using a GHD Air Hairdryer.

To get the style that Campora calls “cool, modern and texturized,” he then used a GHD professional straightener on the ends, in order to make them more piecey than the crown. Then he slightly dampened his hands and ran them through her hair to break it up and build texture.

For additional texture and movement, he worked Nexxus New York Salon Care Exxpand+ Volumizing Whip through the full head of hair. “It’s a great light hold product that doesn’t weigh hair down,” Campora says. The finishing touch was Nexxus New York Salon Care Maxximum Finishing Mist, which helps Chastain’s hair stay fluid while holding it in place.
