January Jones Can’t Stop Changing Her Hair Color

We expect to wake up to a celebrity showing off a new cut or dye job on Instagram or the red carpet almost every morning; what we don’t expect is for that celebrity, day after day, to be January Jones. In the course of a week, the actress has gone from blonde to blonde with reddish-pink streaks to allover copper-red and now—a mere 24 hours later—back to blonde with a pale pink tint.

Since none of her looks qualify as missteps, we have to assume Jones is just experiencing an extreme case of hair boredom—and we’ve all been there. But, if you don’t have celebrity means, is the quick turnaround color change worth it? We asked Matrix Celebrity Stylist George Papanikolas for his take:

"Doing a drastic change like that in 24 hours is possible, but can be very time-consuming and harsh on the hair. You want to start by using a color remover or lightener like Matrix Light Master to strip out the artificial hair color. Since January probably only colored her hair red once, then it’s usually fairly easy to remove it. When you have multiple layers of color over color, then the process can be much more difficult. Regardless, the stripping process is harsh on the hair and it will require treating with moisturizing products to keep it soft and manageable. For normal clients, the process can require several appointments since it can take several hours to complete. Unless you book out your colorist for a large day, it’s very difficult for most to fit drastic color changes into a busy schedule, so you can expect a process like this to be very expensive.”
