Is Fergie Bringing Back the 2000s Two-Tone Look?

Some trends die hard, particularly those that were born in the early 2000s. And for good reason too. Most of the beauty looks of the early aughts are cringeworthy. The second their popularity began to fade, the “What were you thinking!?” light switched on in our heads, filling us with regret and an extreme urge to delete our MySpace photos.

But Fergie is boldly entering 2000s beauty territory that we never thought would be revisited (save for Kylie Jenner’s amazing Halloween outfit, but a costume doesn’t count). The singer went full-on Christina Aguilera circa “Dirrty,” with two-tone blond and brown chunks scattered throughout her lob.

And while Kylie’s Xtina revival look was just a costume, she was not afraid to sport questionable 2000s looks IRL, either. This year, Kylie posted a series of photos on Instagram that feature the 2000s brand Von Dutch, sending fashion publications into a tailspin of fear that the brand and its aggressive trucker hats could make a legitimate comeback, thanks to Kylie’s gift for trendsetting.

She’s also embraced the logo lust of the aughts, once wearing a full Louis Vuitton monogram ensemble.

Kendall Jenner, too, dove into the trenches of 2000s style, commissioning a customized reproduction of Paris Hilton’s 21st birthday dress for her own 21st celebration.

Even Vetements, the ultimate cool kid brand of the year, is bringing back 2000s trends, featuring Ed Hardy style boots and collaborating with Juicy Couture for its latest collection.

And while the beauty world has yet to fully embrace the more overt looks of the 2000s, as Fergie did, we’re not as far off as we may think. The frosty shadow and colorful eyeliner trends that are on the rise stem from 2000s favorites.

And even the much loathed contrasting lip liner trend of the 2000s is coming back in the form of lip contouring. Rihanna wore the look in glossy brick red, a definite ode to the beauty era we thought was long gone.

Thanks to social media, the trend cycle is without a doubt becoming shorter. Pretty soon we’ll be wearing Ugg boots again too — or did those ever really leave?
