Get Carrie Underwood's Glam Smoky Eyes

When it comes to our night out makeup routine, a dramatic smoky eye is usually our look of choice, and apparently Carrie Underwood subscribes to the same school of thought.
During a recent chat with the star, we asked her for her best date night makeup recommendations, and true to form, the sexy, smoldering look topped her list. “A smoky eye is definitely something that has been popular for a while, and I don’t think it’s going away,” she tells InStyle. “It makes you feel a little bit more done up, a little more glamorous.”
Underwood, who considers the look to be one of her signatures, recently demonstrated the smoky eye’s versatility at the American Country Countdown Awards in the shot above, where she played off of the metallic vibe of her gown for a bronzed take on the classic.

The art of creating the perfect smoky eye can be intimidating for beginners, but practice makes perfect, and user-friendly palettes certainly help. “It can be pretty scary looking at dark-colored shadows trying to figure out how to make a smoky eye out of them,” she adds. “I love that Almay has it all wrapped up in the i-Color Smoky-i Kit ($8; ulta.com), and there’s no way you can mess that up.”
Underwood recommends practicing the technique in your downtime so that you have it mastered for a night out. “The best piece of beauty advice I’ve ever been given is to experiment every once in a while,” she tells InStyle. “If there is something you want to try that you’ve seen on a friend, or in an ad or movie, pick a day where you aren’t doing much and play a little bit. Try something out, and try something new!”
