First, the wood element. It shows up in two of the winners: Guerlain’s La Petite Robe Noire Eau de Parfum Couture (winner for best women’s fragrance in selective distribution, according to online voters) and Yves Rocher’s Quelques Notes d’Amour (winner for for best women’s sold in a brand’s own stores, according to online voters). Both of these have woody notes at their base (as opposed to the very common musk). An interesting turn.

Another theme that is hinted at multiple times is the inspiration of a particular piece of clothing. Along with the wood notes, the description of La Petite Robe Noire reads that the scent “takes the form of a stunning long dress sewn with fresh floral notes and top-stitched with ultra-refined woody notes. And the vision behind the winner of the winner of the Fifi d’Or Feminin, Burberry’s My Burberry, is the brand’s iconic trench coat (which then translated into the scent of a London garden after the rain).

The obvious conclusion: The French woman of 2015 smells like a woody version of her favorite item in her closet. I think you can qualify that as having a bit of je ne sais quoi, yes?
