How To Make Your Lips Look Twice as Full

By Alina Gonzalez

Who doesn’t want a plumper pout? If lip injections aren’t in the cards for you, there are still ways to get a more luscious, fuller-looking pout—and they don’t involve painful suctioning or potentially irritating ingredients.

Keep scrolling for three simple ways to get fuller-looking lips, even if it’s just to take your best kiss-face selfie for Snapchat. Pucker up!

Aquaphor Healing Ointment

Well-moisturized lips look plumped at the surface, like a filled water balloon. Dry, dehydrated lips will look the opposite of plump—thin, weathered, and wrinkled, like a deflated raisin. At night, apply a thick layer of a super-restorative healing ointment like Aquaphor, which will go to work on dry, chapped lips while you sleep. In the morning, you’ll wake up with lips that already look fuller (and softer). Apply another thin layer of ointment to lips when you wake up.

Before it’s time for your close-up (a.k.a. date time, or selfie time, or just looking-in–the-mirror-feelin’-yourself time), swipe on a buttery, plumping and conditioning lip balm, like Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment.

CoverGirl Colorlicious Lipstick in Caramel Kiss

The color you apply makes a huge difference in how plump your lips appear. Optically, darker colors make lips looks thinner and smaller. Flesh-toned nudes and pinks, on the other hand, make lips look fuller. If you don’t believe us, try applying a peachy beige-pink moisturizing lipstick in a sheen-enhancing shimmer finish (stay away from mattes, which have a drying effect), and tell us your lips don’t look larger. Our current favorite is Covergirl’s Colorlicious Lipstick in Caramel Kiss.

And of course, line lips with a flesh-toned liner, or concealer, before applying lipstick.

Buxom Full-Bodied Lip Gloss

Lastly, always go for gloss on top of your lipstick color if you want truly fuller-looking lips. The formula of gloss itself physically fills lines, adding volume, while the light-reflecting particles in it will make your lips look 3D and extra luscious.

Keep scrolling for our favorite picks in the lip balm, light-colored lipstick, and lip gloss categories—all of which have the moisturizing, high-sheen finish essential for fuller-looking lips.
