  • Long-wear and waterproof mascaras last the longest. If you want to go from day-to-night without having to reapply, choose one of these formulas.

  • To curl your lashes—without using any tools—apply mascara, then use your finger and press your lashes up into a curl while your lashes are still wet. Hold for a few seconds to set the curl in place.

  • While you can apply several coats of mascara to top lashes, one coat on the bottom lashes is all you need. On top lashes, one to two coats looks more natural, while three or more coats is more dramatic.

  • Black mascara is the most flattering color on everyone. Use the darkest version you can find and avoid those with a grayish tone. If you are light blonde or redhead and want a more natural look, you can also go with very dark brown.

  • To prevent clumping, let mascara air dry in between coats.

  • To take it off at the end of the day, lightly blot a cotton pad with eye makeup remover along lashes. Let it dissolve and then gently wipe off. Don’t pull on the lashes or rub because this can cause irritation or for your lashes to fall out.
