Finally—A Perfume That Smells Like Hair Products

I test about 100 new scents every year, and if I’m lucky I’ll love one of them. It’s not like I have a super fancy discerning nose, but I pretty quickly split everything into one of two groups: too powdery or too sugary. And if it were Venn diagram-style, most would fall into one larger classification: overwhelming and headache-inducing.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the light smell of most products, like the faint rose scent of my By Terry Cellularose Baume D’eau face cream ($99) or the almond aroma of Votre Vu’s Duette Luxe Lip Balm and Hand Crème ($39). In fact, I’m pretty sure I started using Oribe’s Cote d’Azur Hair Refresher for the warm scent it’d leave in my hair all day and not because it actually did anything.

After enough people told him the same thing, Oribe created Cote d’Azur Eau de Parfum and Silver Pearl Eau de Parfum (both $85). The former replicates the signature scent of the brand’s acclaimed hair care line with notes of bergamot, jasmine, and sandalwood. The latter’s also adapted from its grooming products, with leather, bamboo, and fig leaf to freshen up the skin. So now I can save my hair products for when I actually need them to do something to my hair—and spritz the perfume when I want to smell like a million bucks.
