Eyebrows That Look Like Actual Feathers Are the Latest Polarizing Trend on Instagram

Instagram is the birthplace of all sorts of weird trends, especially when it comes to the beauty space. (See: Tiger-eye hair and DIYing your own nude lip color.) It always make us think that we've seen it all—until something like #FeatherBrow comes along to remind us: NOPE.

Don't confuse these feathered eyebrows with the shaping technique popularized by celebrity brow artist Kristie Streicher, which involves careful tapering to give your brows a naturally thicker look. #FeatherBrow is intended to make your brows look like actual feathers. It began with Finnish makeup artist Stella Sironen, who posted a pic of her colorful, holographic eye makeup beneath slick eyebrows parted horizontally, down the middle. Her eyebrows kind of stole the show.

Her credit for what she used on her feathered eyebrows in her Instagram caption was "gluestick." While you're probably better off employing clear lip gloss or even eye gloss to get this look—if you're even into it—it's a pretty clever way to MacGyver it.

Sironen's trend, which began as a joke, caught on, and other Instagrammers have started doing their own versions. Makeup artist Kelsee Marie showed off a more toned-down version using clear brow gel.

Naturally, #FeatherBrow has been...raising some eyebrows. (Sorry, not sorry.) Comments have ranged from "OH HELL NO" to "I actually love it!!!" One admirer even riffed on it by adding gold pigment.

We're not sure if it's something we'd wear every day (or even at all) so we kind of understand the divided reactions. Still, if you don't like it, no one's forcing you to wear it. And if you do? Go for it. Just skip the Elmer's and use a product that's safe for skin.
