Thinking of getting inked? Eva Longoria might advise you to consider your decision long and hard. The actress can attest to the fact that a tattoo is very permanent — and having it removed can be harrowing. To drive the point home, Longoria has been using Snapchat to chronicle the removal of her wrist tattoo in excruciating detail.

Filming at the L.A. clinic of Dr. Tattoff, Longoria announced to viewers, “By the way, this has been many sessions, so don’t think you can zap off a tattoo in one session.” A tattoo may be removed in two to four visits, though it may take as many as 10 more sessions, according to WebMD. The process of removing the star tattoo from her, she says, has been more painful than it was when she had ink removed from her upper back, which she couldn’t show to the public “because my pants were down,” she says. The tattoo was a tribute to ex-husband Tony Parker.

The process does look daunting. First, numbing cream is applied to the star’s wrist and covered in plastic. Then the doctor applies cold air to freeze the area before sending quick pulses of light from a large wand directly into her skin to break up the ink particles.

Longoria can be heard crying out in “delayed” pain as she sits in the chair wearing goggles. After ice and aloe are applied to the affected area, the newlywed warns, “This is a tale for all young kids. It hurts to get a tattoo, but it’s 10 times worse getting it off.”

Other stars can attest to the agony of tattoo removal. Back in 2014, Kelly Osbourne Instagrammed the process of having a keyboard tattoo removed from her arm. “I did the crime, I am now doing the time! #NoPainNoGain!” she captioned the close-up video.

Famously, Angelina Jolie had a “Billy Bob” tattoo — an homage to then-love Billy Bob Thornton — zapped off her upper arm. “I’ll never be stupid enough to have a man’s name tattooed on me again,” she said afterward. She has since had the area tattooed with a dragon, which she then removed and had replaced with coordinates of her children’s birthplaces (the woman can clearly tolerate pain).

Actress Megan Fox once idolized Marilyn Monroe so much that she had the legend’s face tattooed onto her right arm. But in 2011, she said she was having it removed because “it is a negative character, as she suffered from personality disorders and was bipolar. I do not want to attract this kind of negative energy in my life.” according to the Independent.

But perhaps rapper-turned-actor 50 Cent, aka Curtis Jackson, takes the cake for lasering off most of the tattoos that once covered his arms and torso. “It cuts down on the amount of time I have to spend in makeup covering them up,” he told People in 2010, adding that the it was “an ongoing process.”
