Runways this season are all about the negative space manicure, and Emma Watson took this minimalist trend and applied it to her makeup.

Negative space manicures lend an edge to simple designs, and Watson used the same concept to avoid darkening and intensifying her elegant look for the California premiere of Beauty and the Beast on Thursday.

Not natural, natural

Putting her spin on a classic cat eye, Watson’s makeup artist, Charlotte Hayward, drew a thin line extending from the center of the eye to the outer corner, meeting at the crease and forming an elongated shape.

Watson is committed to an environmentally friendly beauty routine, and Hayward opted for natural brands. The actress’s freckles showed through, thanks to a combo of Kjaer Weis certified organic Cream Foundation and Vapour Illusionist Concealer, which is made from 70 percent non-GMO, organic plant ingredients and 30 percent minerals. She contoured her cheeks with a pinky-brown bronzer and set the look with powder. Coral satin lipstick brought color to her face and followed the orange lip trend we’ve seen on runways and red carpets this season.

Completing her on-trend look, Watson’s hair was woven with chains and gold embellishments, playing off Janelle Monáe’s signature red carpet hairdos, which incorporate gold wires, as well as the new hair jewelry trend.
