This Drugstore Beauty Product is the Secret to the No-Makeup Makeup Look at Isabel Marant

Backstage at Isabel Marant fall 2017, Lisa Butler broke out this drugstore beauty product to achieve the quintessential, French girl no-makeup makeup look.

Every fashion week in Paris I look forward to going backstage at Isabel Marant. Many people are shocked, since it's well-known in the fashion world that Marant strongly dislikes makeup. But that's exactly the reason why I love it. Because Marant hates the look of heavy foundation, or blush, or eyeliner, or even mascara, makeup artist Lisa Butler has to get creative with the products she uses and the techniques she employs so that the models still look great coming down the runway (bright lights and HD cameras are harsh, man). And those products and techniques are completely applicable in real life. I still use a lip-and-cheek tint she recommended backstage almost three years ago (the Aerin Multi-Color for Lips & Cheeks in Natural, which I just found out is being discontinued). As well as this amazing brow mascara. And last season, she divulged the greatest under-eye concealer ever made (which also, sadly, has been discontinued). And this season was no different. At Isabel Marant's fall 2017 show, Butler shared a few of her newest product finds, including this drugstore beauty product that can be used on lips and cheeks. I've detailed them all, below.

Pai Geranium & Thistle Rebalancing Day Cream. To prep the skin, Butler and her team all used Pai Skincare, an organic, UK-based brand that you can purchase in the U.S. through their website. And while Butler especially liked this moisturizer because it hydrated the skin without leaving it shiny or greasy, she used a whole bunch of products from the line, including a cleanser, a toner, a mist, an oil, and an eye cream. "When you start with dehydrated skin, you end up putting on more makeup to fix it," explained Butler. "But when the skin is hydrated and dewy-looking, it's much easier to apply makeup and you end up using less of it."

Bobbi Brown Retouching Face Pencil in Medium. Here's one concealer Butler has found that rivals the original Ben Nye under eye concealer she told us about last season. "It's a bit light, but it does a good job of getting rid of dark circles on light to medium skin tones," Butler said. The pencil does come in deeper shades—like Deep and Rich—which both promise to do the same for darker complexions.

Le Maquillage Professionnel MaqPro HD Natural. This makeup brand is kind of like the M.A.C. and Make Up For Ever of France, with products geared to professional makeup artists (and even an entire section for special effects). One of Butler's assistants discovered it, and they bought up these cream foundations, which come in a wide range of colors, including the salmon-y, Spam-like colors Butler likes to use for covering dark circles. If you live in Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Dallas, or New Orleans, you're in luck. According to the brand's website{: rel=nofollow}, they're carried at a beauty supply store in each of those areas.

Rodial Eye Sculpt. This ashy brown cream shadow is like the makeup artist-favorite M.A.C. Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Groundwork, "but a lot more matte," said Butler. It's also a bit cooler in tone. For the show, she used a flat, round brush to apply the cream along the creases of the eyes to enhance the natural shadow there.

Inika Certified Organic Eyeliner in Graphite. I hate to admit it, but this is the first time I've ever come across this vegan and organic makeup brand. Butler used the silvery-gray shade to enhance the top and bottom lashes, dotting the pencil along the lashes and then smudging those dots with her finger to create a shadow more than an actual line.

Burt's Bees Lip Crayon in Sedona Sands. Butler used this drugstore beauty product (which costs $9{: rel=nofollow}) on the lips and cheeks. "I like this pencil because it's sheer but it has enough pigment to look like something," said Butler, referring to the fact that it gives the cheeks the illusion of a natural flush and makes lips look a little pinker an healthier. "It also has this really nice sheen to it so when you use it, you get the sheer balm-y shine and a little bit of color."
