Karlie Kloss is one part model, one part fitness maven. Just scroll through her Instagram feed and you’ll find an inspiring array of beautiful fashion photos mixed in with with more #fitspo than you can shake a battle rope at (while balancing on a medicine ball). With her ballet background, and devotion to Pilates and cardio, she makes her athletic shots look effortless (remember our August cover?) and walks a runway with rock-solid strength. In her latest shoot, Kloss brings elegance and power to the new collection from Adidas x Stella McCartney.

SELF got an exclusive look at a behind the scenes video of Kloss crushing it in the pool and on the track while modeling Stella McCartney’s latest spring/summer 2017 collection, alongside sprint star Octavious Freeman and yogi Chelsey Korus, at the Crystal Palace in London.

To prep for these shoots and stay in overall great shape, Kloss has developed some travel rules to abide by throughout her many trips. We got the inside scoop on how she skips across time zones without skipping a beat.

1. Break a sweat as soon as you land.

“I almost always try to get my heart rate going when I get off a plane. It helps to fight jet lag and creates a new routine when abroad,” Kloss tells SELF. Depending on where she’s off to next, she’ll hit up model favorite Dogpound in NYC, Midtown Studio in Paris, or a relaxing yoga class wherever she can.

2. Always pack a swim suit.

“I’ll swim some laps at my hotel or jump in the ocean if I’m lucky enough to be somewhere warm,” Kloss explains. From St. Barth’s, to the Great Barrier Reef, to the pool in the Crystal Palace, having a bathing suit is practical as well as functional. It’s also another workout Kloss has explored—“I love swimming because it’s a great workout for the whole body with limited impact.” It also helps that the new collection has super bright suits that Kloss loves, and we can’t stop looking at.

3. No class times available? No problem. A BYO-equipment workout works just as well.

Kloss travels with bands, small weights, and foam rollers, all of which are key to her hotel room and on-the-road workouts. “Small weights are for leg lifts and foam rollers are great for helping to fight jet lag and stiffness after a flight,” Kloss says.

She’ll sneak in 30 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of strength, and 15 minutes of yoga stretching if she can, whether that’s with a trainer or without. She tries to get it all in one workout if she can—otherwise a little here and a little there is better than nothing.

4. If all else fails (she is human after all), yoga moves are the best quick fix to Zen her out.

“Downward Facing Dog and a few yoga sequences always restore my sense of peace and restlessness,” Kloss says. No matter how many flights she had to hop on and off, yoga moves can instantly provide calming feelings, and take her mind off anything crazy that’s bound to happen while traveling.

We would definitely need some Zen moments before climbing up the high dive platform and racing a world class sprinter—both of which Kloss executes perfectly in this video.

5. Mental wellness is as important as physical fitness.

We imagine set life can be a bit chaotic with all the outfit changes, makeup touch ups, and take after take after take. Among it all, Kloss says she takes time for herself to find herself in the madness. “I love using the app Headspace for meditation and breathing exercises either before bed, a big shoot, or after a workout. It helps me find balance no matter the circumstances.”

You can catch Kloss testing her limits alongside the two other female powerhouses on the adidas.com site and shop the 150+ item collection at adidas.com/stellamccartney or stellamccartney.com.
