What Ayesha and Steph Curry Actually Eat in a Day

From Delish

Steph Curry may be grabbing headlines for leading the Golden State Warriors to the NBA finals this Thursday, but in the food world, his wife's the true up-and-coming star. Ayesha's quietly run her own lifestyle blog, AyeshaCurry.com, for the past few years, and honed her on-camera skills while hosting a cooking segment on a local Bay Area show, Warrior Central, but this fall, she's going national, releasing her own cookbook and debuting her own Cooking Channel show.

"I really want the show to be fun, fresh and approachable, without too much fussiness," Ayesha says. "Everything you see me make is what you can make at home." That's largely because the things she'll be making on TV are the things she makes in her own kitchen when the cameras aren't rolling. Curry cooks just about every meal for her husband and two kids, and if you think his basketball game is strong, just wait until you see what fuels him through every 3-pointer.

They're Big on 5-Minute Breakfasts.

Curry swears by her Vitamix blender, and usually starts each day making a big smoothie for Steph as he races out the door. "I make my kids and husband food every morning, but somehow I get lost in the shuffle," she says. "I'll drink whatever's leftover from his smoothie, and I love making avocado toast lately. I'll put Vegenaise on multigrain bread with a fried egg, Tabasco and chili flakes, and sharp cheddar. That's all the nutrition you need in five minutes."

Some days, she'll whip up her own take on bulletproof coffee, adding a little grass-fed butter or coconut oil with coffee in a blender. "It's so creamy and frothy without dairy," she says. "That's always a big hit."

Their Meal-Prep Game Is Strong.

With finals looming, having meals prepped and ready whenever someone needs them is more crucial than ever. Ayesha pulls out 10 GladWare containers at a time, filling each one with a vegetable, protein and healthy starch (often a potato or sweet potato). "Usually, it's quinoa, chicken, a veggie and a sweet potato, but I love using Instagram and Pinterest to get ideas," she says.

Ayesha preps meals 10 at a time so there's always a complete meal on hand. "I'll end up eating some, and my husband likes to grab them as a snack," she explains. "He gets home around 2 o'clock, but he doesn't have dinner until 7 or 7:30, so it fills him up until then."

Her Chicken Has a Special Ingredient.

Curry often sprinkles plenty of turmeric on the chicken that goes into those snack packs. "I believe it's anti-inflammatory, so I like to put a lot on," she says.

Even the classic chicken tenders she makes for her kids has a twist: She breads them in ground flaxseed and bakes them in the oven.

Her Spaghetti Has an Even More Surprising Ingredient.

Curry has a weakness for brown sugar in everything-especially on bacon-and in her spaghetti sauce. "I swear it brings out every other flavor: The tomato, the basil, all those herbs," she says. "It totally perfects the sauce."

She Prefers Laid-Back Lunches.

Most lunches in the Curry household don't follow a recipe-they're more of a DIY variety. "I'll put out a spread of fruit and some deli meats to build your own sandwiches, or most of the time, I like to do bagged salads with grilled shrimp or chicken or fish," she says.

She Has a Foolproof 3-Ingredient Marinade.

Curry always keeps marmalades in her kitchen, but not because she's a toast fanatic. "I love mixing apricot marmalade with soy sauce and fresh ginger or garlic, and using that as a sauce to coat salmon or sea bass," she says. "It creates this crazy intense flavor that's sweet and savory."

Baked fish with vegetables and rice or another starch (often, potatoes) is one of her go-to weeknight dinners. "I love one-pot meals," she says.

There's One Dessert Nobody Can Resist.

The Curry family celebrates special occasions with homemade bananas foster. "I don't know if people really like that dish or like that it's lit on fire, but they always ask me to make it," she laughs. "At first, I used a Bic lighter with a really long stem because I was afraid of lighting my eyebrows off. Now I tilt the pan and the whole thing goes up in flames-no problem."

Guess we know what they'll be making if the Golden State Warriors beat the Cavaliers next week.
