Audrina Patridge Reveals People Criticized Her for Having a Baby Before Marriage

2016 was a wonderful year for The Hills alumna Audrina Patridge. In June 2016, she welcomed her first child with her then-fiancé (now husband) Corey Bohan—a daughter named Kirra Max Bohan. Four months later, Patridge married Bohan during a super-intimate ceremony in Hawaii. On the outside, it seemed like everything was going swimmingly for the reality TV icon.
But nobody—nobody—has the perfect life. We all have our issues, and Patridge's came in the form of people criticizing her for having a baby before marrying Bohan. Yes, even in an era where LGBTQ+ parents can openly adopt and single motherhood is largely embraced, women are still being held to these traditionalist standards.
"A lot of people gave me a hard time for having a baby before getting married, but who are they to judge?" Patridge revealed to Momtastic. "You always have those few haters who are going to be negative in every situation. At the end of the day, nobody is perfect. You have to do what's good for you."
We couldn't have said it better ourselves. When will people accept that there is not one "correct" way to become a mother? We all have the right to develop our families at our own pace—and as long as we're happy, that's all that matters. If Patridge is content with the progression of her personal life, then why are we vilifying her? We should be celebrating the fact that she and her family found happiness on their own terms.
And we all can do this. Whether this means marriage and kids by 27, choosing to raise a child solo, adoption, or something else entirely, women have so many paths they can take on the journey to motherhood. (And, of course, opting to forgo motherhood entirely is valid, too.) This isn't a one-way street.
We applaud Audrina Patridge for writing her own roadmap.
