Alicia Vikander made her Met Gala debut this year, walking the red carpet in Louis Vuitton and giving us the vibe that in the future women will be Viking superheroes. Her noteworthy look, from her clunky sneaker heels to her remarkably subtle makeup, was topped with one of the night’s more surprising updos.

Vikander’s hair look was designed by stylist Chris Naselli, who explained that being bold was a cornerstone of this style.

“All woman kick ass,” Naselli says. “We wanted a strong and confident look that’s not so predictable. We mixed a bold, textured ponytail with unstructured randomized braids to add dimension and depth.” He began by washing her hair with TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Pre-Wash Conditioner and TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Shampoo for volume and fullness. He then applied TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse while her hair was still damp, from roots to ends, and blew it dry.

“The dress always leads the way for me,” Naselli says of his styling. “It’s the inspiration for Alicia and me to build a story around. It all — the dress, hair, makeup and Alicia — comes together to create art.”

Naselli gave Vikander a center part when her hair was completely dry and braided sections of her hair on each side, directing them away from her face. Using his fingers, he raked her hair back into a ponytail that he secured at the crown with a ponytail holder.

The trick to creating a seamless look, Naselli says, is taking a section of hair from the bottom of the ponytail and lightly teasing and spraying it with TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hairspray, then wrapping it around the ponytail holder to obscure it. He finished her look by adding a dollop of TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse to her ponytail and scrunching it, for extra texture.
