Alessandra Ambrosio: "Whenever I Start to Diet, Everything Goes Downhill"

From Cosmopolitan

Contrary to popular belief, not all Victoria's Secret models choose to live their lives counting calories to maintain their perfect bodies. Alessandra Ambrosio is that girl - and literally does whatever the fuck she feels when it come to her health and fitness choices. Her carefree outlook on how she views her body is so refreshing.

The supermodel spilled all her health and fitness secrets in an interview with Net-A-Porter's The Edit. "I'm all about moderation and eating something different every day," Alessandra says. "Obviously I try not to splurge on pasta, but if I'm back in Brazil where everything is pasta- or bread-based - and so yummy - I'll eat whatever I want, then go back to lots of salads and chicken or fish with veg as soon as I'm back in LA."

It's all about a balance for her but you gotta treat yo' self sometimes and that's what she does. Her treats consist of sweets and red wine - in other words, Alessandra sounds like my type of girl. "Whenever I start to diet, everything goes downhill. So if I want a little bite of dark chocolate on a plane or a cocktail with friends on the weekend, I'll have it," she added. "In fact, I'll drink a glass of red wine with dinner most nights, and two or three times a week I'll have a cup of tea and a cupcake with [my daughter] Anja."

Her Brazilian heritage plays a big part in her carefree, body-loving attitude, Alessandra says - growing up, exercise just wasn't something she cared that much about. "It comes from that carnival culture, where women will parade around barely wearing a thing - just a tiny bikini, G-string or feathers. Every woman's body is spectacular there, not because it's perfect but because they're loving life," she explained. "It's never been about having a Barbie-like physique in Brazil but having the right curves, whatever your proportions or size." #Retweet.

She actually loves her body even more now that she is a mom (she and her partner Jamie Mazur are parents to 7-year-old Anja and 3-year-old Noah). Motherhood taught her to embrace her curves, Alessandra tells The Edit, and changed her perception of her body for the better. "If cosmetic help makes you feel better about yourself and gives you confidence, then great. None of us can ever be sure of what we're going to end up wanting to do in the future," she said. "But it's important to take care of our mind and spirit, too, not just the outside." Amen to that!
