Gingerism is so extreme that it’s actually considered by some to be a form of racism, and thanks to a few select television shows and a viral YouTube video, redheads have been given a lot of extra unwanted attention the past few years.

Unsurprisingly, the rarest, most natural hair color is being singled out yet again, but this time for something other than the “gingers have no souls” sentiment entirely. The Twycross Zoo in the U.K. will be granting free entry to gingers on World Orangutan Day, Aug. 19.

According to the Coventry Telegraph, the day is intended to celebrate the auburn-haired apes and to emphasize the dangers facing them in the wild, including the loss of their habitats.

“On Friday, August 19 we will be letting anyone with red hair in for free — male, female, adult, child, strawberry blonde, auburn, fiery red, natural or dyed — it doesn’t matter,” explained a spokesperson for the zoo.

While this was obviously meant to be a nice gesture in honor of what seems to be an important day for the Twycross Zoo and its apes, the zoo appears to have ignored the fact that connecting monkeys to redheads could be offensive to others. However, according to plenty of reactions on Twitter, people were excited about it instead of taking offense.

“Free trip to Twycross zoo for world orangutan day because I have ginger hair, I love it” said one pleased commenter, while another said: “u can say whatever u want abt ginger people but all im saying is i dont see brunettes getting free admission to twycross zoo.”

Whichever way you feel about the zoo’s choice in celebrating World Orangutan Day, there’s one thing the zoo wants to make clear before doors open on Aug. 19: Anyone wearing a red-colored wig will still have to pay full admission. Note taken.
