Romantic Hairstyles You Need to Try

Swept up, carefree, feminine—it’s the way you feel in love, and it’s the way your hair should look, too. Here, ten styles to get you started.

By Catherine Q. O’Neill

TOUSLED BOB
For soft, touchable waves like Jourdan Dunn’s, prep the hair with volumizing spray (we love Phyto Phytovolume Actif Volumizer Spray) and blow-dry it with a paddle brush. Part your hair in the center and, starting from the midlength, wrap two-inch sections around a one-inch curling rod (if you don’t have one, just leave the clamp on your regular curling iron closed). Shake out the waves with your fingers and finish with hair spray (like L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray).

LOW, EASY BRAID
Do you have some dry shampoo lying around? As in a whole can? Then part your hair in the center and spray it vigorously until it has a loose, airy texture. (We love Nexxus Youth Renewal Rejuvenating Dry Shampoo.) Gather all the hair at the back of the head and loosely braid it to the ends in a simple, three-strand braid, tying it off with a clear elastic. Let the front pieces fall out and touch them up with a curling iron for a slight bend.

WAVY HALF UPDO
We love Keira Knightley’s sexy twist on this classic half-up style, and it couldn’t be easier to re-create. Work a volumizing mousse (like Redken Full Frame 07 Protective Volumizing Mousse) from roots to ends and blow-dry the hair with a round brush. Wrap one-inch sections around a one-and-a-half-inch curling iron, leaving the ends free and pulling on each wave to loosen it. Part the hair in the center, back-comb the roots at the crown, and casually gather the hair above each ear at the back of the head, pinning it into place with bobby pins.

MESSY FAUX BOB
For a trendy lob (without the untrendy growing-out phase), go for a faux lob, like Nicola Peltz’s. Work a volumizing mousse (like Pantene Triple Action Volume Mousse) from roots to ends and blow-dry the hair with a round boar-bristle brush. Lightly back-comb the hair in layers from the top of the head to the nape of the neck. Then tie the hair in a low ponytail with a clear elastic and tuck the tail under the fold and against the nape, securing it with bobby pins. Loosen the sides to enhance the bob shape and create soft, face-framing flyaways.

GRECIAN BRAIDS
For Emily Blunt’s soft, ethereal braids, part damp hair down the middle and work some styling cream (like Verb Styling Cream) from midlengths to ends. Rough-dry the hair and finish with a generous mist of volumizing spray (like Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray). French braid the hair on each side of the part, crossing the sections under rather than over for the inside-out effect. Finish to the ends and lay the braids one over the other at the nape of the neck, pinning them flat against the head with bobby pins.

TEXTURED PONYTAIL
You’ll never refer to a ponytail as basic again. For Gigi Hadid’s heavenly texture, mist salt spray (like Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Texturizing Sea Spray) through damp hair and rough-dry it. Curl your hair loosely with a one-and-a-half-inch curling iron. Then back-comb the roots a bit before pulling the hair into a ponytail at the back of the head and securing it with an elastic.

TWISTED LOW-DO
Nikki Reed’s messy, twisty, sexy low-do is half braid, half chignon. Randomly curl one-inch sections with a one-and-a-half-inch curling iron. Begin a French-fishtail braid at the crown and continue it for several rotations before gathering all the hair into a messy chignon, pinning it in place, and finishing with light-hold hair spray (like Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray). The more pieces fall out, the better.
