7 Times Dakota Johnson Took Girl-Next-Door Beauty to the Red Carpet

Dakota Johnson has a near-supernatural knack for girl-next-door beauty—yet the February Vogue cover star and Fifty Shades Darker colead possesses an even greater gift for taking that easy hair and makeup off the street and onto the red carpet, to a knockout effect.

Take her signature head of rumpled waves, which appeared to roll straight out of bed and up to the 2014 Met Gala, acting as a breezy counterpoint to her elegant Jason Wu gown. A laissez-faire slick of matte red lipstick on the street provided the ideal bit of ornamentation at a Black Mass premiere, while an airport-friendly topknot transitioned seamlessly to the Venice Film Festival alongside a pink slip of a dress. Elsewhere, Johnson’s effortless take on a half-up bun and post-gym ponytail worked equal red carpet wonders, proving that less can be more—when it’s done like this.
