The 4 Rules That Got Shay Mitchell Into the Best Shape of Her Life in 2 Weeks

June Cosmopolitan cover star Shay Mitchell found out she’d be modeling swimsuits just two weeks before the big shoot. While the bathing suit thing wasn’t exactly her idea, she was so psyched about her first Cosmo cover that she agreed - and spent the next 14 days getting into tip-top shape.

Clearly, her approach worked - and she was super proud of the end results:

She recently spoke to Cosmopolitan.com about her 14-day transformation.

Here are the four biggest changes she made in the days leading up to the shoot:

1. She drank a lot more water. “When you’re more hydrated, you’re actually not craving as much of the junk as you are when you are dehydrated, and it kind of fills you up a little bit more,” she said. “Second portions are always good, but the third time you’re going up for more food, that’s when you’re like, ah, I should drink a little bit more water.” She’d carry around a liter of water and drink up.

2. She limited her eating hours. Shay stopped eating after 8 p.m. (a change that didn’t seem to faze the early riser).

3. She cut out candy. Shay typically stops by the very available candy bowls served on the set of Pretty Little Liars. “I cut that out a little bit, for those two weeks at least,” she said.

4. She amped up her workouts by taking them outside of the gym. “I was still working a lot, so I was trying to fit it in my schedule,” she said of getting fit for the shoot. “But I also did a lot of things at my own house. It’s surprising what you can do with a chair and with a couch.”

Her go-to moves: Triceps dips off the couch, with a lifted leg for an extra challenge. And as for cardio? “You can get a skipping rope and go outside for 10 minutes. You’d be surprised by how many calories that can burn,” she said.
