We *love* watching YouTube beauty tutorials to learn all about chroming, contouring, non-touring and baking our makeup (OK, still not totally sure what that one is). Almost as fun as the beauty tips are the hella entertaining beauty gurus teaching us their skills.

So we were fascinated by this thread in Reddit.com/MakeupAddiction about YouTube beauty gurus IRL — in some cases, when they were learning their craft as makeup artists (MUA) before they were famous.

While there were a few negative stories (probably similar to anyone’s experience with a MUA, to be honest), here are three folks who sound super-sweet and talented IRL as well as on the interwebs:

Patrick Starrr

Reddit user seeyourchic ending up hiring a MUA who had Patrick Starr an assistant — before he was YouTube-famous, that is — and said he was “super professional” and “did a great job.”

I actually hired a local makeup artist to do my makeup along with my bridesmaids for my wedding. Her friend and helper that day happened to be Patrick Starrr. Very random. I had no idea who he was (this was back in December 2014 before he had a ton of followers). He actually did a great job and knew exactly what he was doing. He didn’t do anything crazy heavy, just perfect enough for photos. He was also super professional. Like I said, I didn’t recognize him because at that time I wasn’t into the whole YouTube guru thing, but my sister did and even then he remained totally down to earth and did his job.

Jaclyn Hill

urmidnightdream’s lucky friend got Jaclyn Hill to do her prom makeup for her!

[O]ne of my friends had Jaclyn Hill do her makeup for prom like two years ago. I guess my friends cousin was good friends with her, so she did it as a favor. She said she did an amazing job and was super sweet!

NikkieTutorials

We’re big fans of NikkieTutorials videos here at HelloGiggles and sounds like she’s a lovely person IRL, as well, according to prinsesss:

I met Nikki a few weeks ago in Amsterdam and she was such a sweetheart. She gave me a hug and told me my eyebrows look amazing and what products I use on them. She was anything but arrogant when I met her. She was kind and funny.
