Sung at a leisurely pace, the song lasts for the amount of time you need to thoroughly wash up. “The most important thing to do to avoid catching a cold is washing your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and water,” says Margarita Rohr, M.D., clinical instructor of internal medicine at the N.Y.U. Langone Joan H. Tisch Center for Women’s Health. “It washes off germs, decreasing the likelihood of being infected by touching your hands to your mouth or nose.” (Might we suggest singing it in your head when you’re in your office bathroom.)
