100 Years of Beauty in Mexico [Video]

The 100 Years of Beauty video series by Cut.com never gets old because they only prove how rich the different experiences of beauty are, especially when they span generations and continents. In the latest installment, 100 Years of Beauty in Mexico, starring Mexican American model Reyna Marquez and directed by Blaine Ludy, the team explores Mexico’s history and contributions to pop culture (music, art, fashion, beauty, film), from the 1920s soldaderas defending their native territory to 1950s Czech-born Mexican film star Miroslava Stern to 2014 Miss Mexico Josselyn Garciglia.

Mexico has a rich history of numerous advanced civilizations (the Incans and Mayans, for example) and contentious colonial conquests (remember learning about conquistador Hernán Cortés in middle school?), and it’s not often that we get the chance learn about our neighbor’s incredible beauty legacy. Check out the video, and watch the rest of the series (1, 2, 3, 4) for a quick afternoon break and history lesson.
