Porsche Ups Design, Performance Ante on 2017 911 Turbo and Turbo S
Porsche has announced that its 2017 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S will make their world debut at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January. The iconic sports cars are available in coupe and convertible body styles, with 20 more horsepower than the previous 911 models, plus new features and a sharper design.
The 3.8-liter, twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine that powers the 911 Turbo now makes 540 horsepower and 523 lb.-ft. of torque, while the 911 Turbo S engine now cranks out 580 horsepower and a maximum of 553 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines feature a dynamic boost function, which improves throttle response and maintains the boost pressure during load changes, according to Porsche.
The formerly optional Sport Chrono package is now a standard feature on all 911 Turbo models, and includes the new GT sport steering wheel in 918 Spyder design, equipped with a switch that can select Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, or Individual drivetrain mode. The Individual setting lets drivers configure and store their preferred vehicle setups, including PDK shift strategy, throttle response, and damper control.
The performance features of the new 911 Turbo S include active roll stabilization and the Porsche Composite Ceramic Brake (PCCB) system. New options for all 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo models include radar-based lane-change assist and a lift system for the front axle that can be used to increase ground clearance by 40 mm (1.5 in.) measured at the front spoiler lip. The Sport Chrono package, park assist, and LED headlights are now standard on all 911 Turbo models. Standard features on the Turbo S include 18-way adaptive Sport Seats Plus with seat backrests in leather; two-tone leather interior; LED headlights with PDLS+; Sport Design exterior mirrors; and Carbon Fiber interior trim.
The 2017 911 Turbo will adopt several design characteristics of the 2017 911 Carrera, giving it an even sleeker, sharper look.
The new 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S are expected to reach U.S. dealer showrooms in April of next year. Pricing ranges from $159,200 for a 911 Turbo coupe to $200,400 for a 911 Turbo S Cabriolet.
