2015 Subaru WRX STI First Look: 2014 Detroit Auto Show Video
Subaru’s 2015 WRX STI has finally landed and is sure to suffice to the brand’s legion of fans. Subaru didn’t pull any surprises with the design, with the latest model once again packing a turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. However, compared to the outgoing car the new one’s been refined in almost every way.
Unlike the 2015 WRX, which features a 2.0-liter engine shared with the Forester XT, the 2015 WRX STI sports an exclusive 2.5-liter mill good for 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels through a limited-slip center differential that's electronically controlled for maximum torque transfer to individual wheels.
No performance figures have been released yet, but in the video below Subaru of America national manager Dominic Infante drops some hints. He mentions top speed should be about 164 mph, which is 3 mph more than the outgoing model. No word on the 0-60 mph time but considering the regular 2015 WRX does it in 5.4 seconds, expect the figure to be about 5.0 seconds or less for the STI.
Pictured in these galleries is a special WRX STI Launch Edition model, which will be limited to 1,000 units and come exclusively in Subaru’s WR Blue Pearl paint. The cars also get gold-painted 18-inch BBS wheels and some other extras.
