Fiat 124 Spider Reborn—Via Mazda—At Los Angeles Auto Show

It’s taken 50 years, but another spider is on its way, as Fiat unveiled the all-new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday.

The all-new roadster harkens back to its roots in a modern interpretation of the classic 124 Spider that originally arrived in America as a1966 model. That spider crawled, whereas this one should move along quite faster. Designed in Turin, Italy, the new 214 Spider is built off of the Mazda MX-5 platform in a partnership with Mazda. However, Fiat will add its 1.4L turbocharged engine that creates 160 hp and 184-lb-ft of torque, meaning it will out muscle the Mazda by a few ponies. That engine will be mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The 124 Spider will have a distinctive look with a power domes on the hood and crisp rear fenders that are nicely creased. The interior promises additional soft touch points and premium materials throughout.
