What it takes to hit 250 mph on a hand-built turbo Hayabusa

Larry Maas has spent a lifetime around cars and motorcycles, but only made his first trip to Bonneville Speed Week in 2009 with his father, who was running a 1950 Olds that he had taken across the salt 51 years earlier. That spurred him to build his own vehicle, but one with two wheels rather than four — namely a Suzuki Hayabusa capable of at least 430 hp thanks to dozens of custom parts, including a turbo large enough to eat a man's fist. After hitting 195 mph at half-throttle in 2010, Maas wants to best the class record of 254 mph, and this video by Adam Miszta shows what it takes — in time, money and dedication — to reach a few moments at speed.
