A Cobra-powered weekend of race cars at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion
By mid-morning on Saturday, the line of cars waiting to get into the Rolex Monterey Motorsports reunion snaked for a mile around and down the hills of Laguna Seca, echoing with the wail of several generations of race cars. It's one of the best events any true car lover could attend, and this year it was over-run with Shelby Cobras.
As part of the tribute to Carroll Shelby, not only did 45 of his original Cobra race cars take part in the historic races, but the paddocks were filled with rare vehicles, including the first Cobra built from an AC Ace that Shelby himself held onto until his death. While the Motorsports reunion is an invitation-only event, it draws representatives from every form of racing, from the early part of the 20th century to late-model NASCAR.
