A British mom has made headlines all over the world after being photographed taking a break to breastfeed her baby son during a 43-hour ultramarathon.

Sophie Power, who recently competed in the 106-mile, high-elevation Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc trail run through France, Italy, and Switzerland, has been applauded for showing “motherhood endurance” and “the strength of the human body” in the snap, which was taken by photographer Alexis Berg.

The 36-year-old mother of two and avid runner took time to nurse her 3-month-old infant, Cormac, during the challenging race.

“Cormac usually feeds every three hours, and it took me 16 to get to Courmayeur [in the Alpine region of northern Italy], where he could first meet me, so I was hand-expressing everywhere I could en route,” Power told Runner’s World.

“I was so relieved he was hungry!” she added.

The photo was first uploaded to Strava’s Instagram page, where it has since received over 25,000 likes.

“We applaud your endurance, your courage and your defiance of those who told you you couldn’t,” the fitness app gushed in its post. “You’re a true inspiration.”

Power has since taken to her own Instagram page to note that the photo shows how hard it is to juggle life and being a new mom.

“This isn’t a story about me,” she wrote. “It’s a story about the daily struggle of being a new Mum. A story about the need to nurture our babies the best we can. And the importance to prioritise our physical and mental health — to be ourselves as well as be a mother.

“I have been overwhelmed by the positivity and supportive messages. They are for all mothers for we are all in this together.”

Despite having to stop to feed her son, Power managed to complete the marathon in 43 hours and 33 minutes.
