Lupita Nyong'o Skipped the Oscars Red Carpet, But Stunned in a Feathered Gown
The red carpet at the 2019 Oscars was filled with pink gowns, unexpected accessories, and one of the rarest diamonds in the world. But notably missing amongst all the glitz and glamour? Lupita Nyong'o.
The Oscar-winning actress opted to skip this year's red carpet, which is a real shame because she wore the most stunning gown for the occasion. Sharing a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram, Lupita revealed her look for the night: a gorgeous, white feathered Oscar de la Renta gown.

The dreamy, one-shouldered dress was straight off the runway from the fashion house's Fall 2019 show at New York Fashion Week. It featured a high-low hemline and belted waist.
Along with her breathtaking gown choice, she also paid homage to her film Black Panther with a special piece of jewelry. She wore a bespoke diamond ring designed by jeweler Zameer Kassam. The sparkling piece featured prongs inspired by the iconic "Wakanda Forever" symbol, black diamonds to represent her work for the TimesUp movement, 14 diamonds on each side for her 2014 Oscar win, and the words “Your dreams are valid," from her Oscar-winning speech engraved into the ring.
It's unclear why the actress decided to skip this year's red carpet, but she did attend the award show. See all the celebrities who walked the red carpet at the 2019 Academy Awards below.
