LeBron James brought his talents to tequila a few years ago when he joined Lobos 1707 as a financial backer. Now the brand is re-releasing its limited-edition añejo expression, but act fast if you want to find a bottle because there are only about 9,000 available.

Lobos 1707 was founded in 2020 by Diego Osorio along with a few partners, and has attracted other celebrity backers over the years (as if LeBron’s star power wasn’t enough), including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Draymond Green. The brand’s core expressions consist of joven, reposado, and extra añejo expressions, all of which are finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks from Spain (the joven is filtered to remove any color). The tequila is produced at the Tequilera Company of Arandas distillery in Jalisco, and while according to Tequila Matchmaker there is a diffuser on site Lobos says that the agave pinas are cooked in an autoclave and no color or flavor additives are used (something it doesn’t have to reveal if it’s less than one percent).

The añejo is the one expression released in limited numbers, and it seems to be a very popular member of the lineup. It’s aged for 12 to 18 months in American white oak barrels and then finished in PX sherry casks, a very sweet type of sherry that you’ll often find used as finishing casks in the scotch whisky industry as well. Tasting notes include walnuts, caramel, and vanilla on the palate, and this is meant to be a sipping tequila rather than a mixer (although of course drink it however you damn well please). “Our team at Lobos 1707 is incredibly thankful for all of those who supported our debut of the newest member of the Lobos wolfpack, helping to elevate your day and night,” said Osorio in a press release. “We are thrilled to bring back the Lobos 1707 Limited Edition Añejo for those who have yet to experience this award-winning liquid for themselves.”

You can find Lobos 1707 Limited Edition Añejo (SRP $100) available to purchase from ReserveBar now, along with the rest of the lineup.
