Apple’s Public Beta Versions of iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan Available Now

As per usual, Apple gave us glimpses of the new Mac and iOS software at its annual WWDC event. However, a new wrinkle this year to Apple’s same-old iteration rollout is the opportunity, just one month later, for any willing Apple gadget owner to try unfinished test versions of both of these pieces of software for themselves.

On Thursday, beta versions of iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan were made available to the public. Mac and iPhone/iPad owners can get installation and download instructions for Apple’s new hotness after signing up at the Beta Software Program website.

These releases bring, among other things, a smarter, more context-aware Siri to iPhones and iPads, and speediness and app improvements to Mac desktops and laptops.

Of course “beta” is synonymous with “unfinished,” so if you can’t tolerate a few bugs here and there, we’d advise you to stick to iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite for now. Apple will likely release the final versions of iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan at the end of the summer — you know, the same-old iteration rollout.
