Tractor trailer fire causes standstill traffic on I-77 near mile markers 9 through 16

ATHENS WV, (WVNS)– West Virginia Turnpike dispatch confirmed a tractor trailer fire has closed left lanes of northbound and southbound traffic on I-77 as of this morning, Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Route 60 at Nuttall Westbound reopens after closure

The fire is now under control thanks to local fire departments and the West Virginia State Police. The driver of the trailer is confirmed safe. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The accident reportedly happened before the Bluestone Travel Plaza between mile marker 16 and 17, affecting travel from mile marker 9 through 16.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

According to the East River Volunteer Fire Department, Engines 1 and 2, and Squad 51, as well as the Athens Volunteer Fire Department and Oakvale Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
