This animated short film about a boy falling for the guy of his dreams will hit you in the feels

A new animated short film called In a Heartbeat about a young boy falling for his crush is the LGBTQ film that we’ve been waiting for, and it’s hitting us right in the feels.

We first heard about the film earlier this year when we were brought to tears by the 25-second trailer. Created by two students, Beth David and Esteban Bravo, from the Ringling College of Art and Design in Florida, the pair started a Kickstarter campaign to get the full thing made last November, and it seems that the fruit of their labor has now become an actuality.

In the style of many of our fave Disney Pixar movies, In a Heartbeat follows a slightly more progressive story, and we’re loving it.

The 4-minute short follows the story of a young boy whose heart gets away from him. “A closeted boy runs the risk of being outed by his own heart after it pops out of his chest to chase down the boy of his dreams,” a description of the film reads.

While the description itself was enough for us to already start welling up, the fully realized film is something else. When the young boy’s heart escapes, it’s truly moving, and things become adorably awkward, too.

What’s even more touching is that, despite adversity, judgement, and the confusion of new love (which can often be heartbreaking itself), these two boys find a way to express their love for each other.

Essentially, you’re going to need a box of tissues for this one, as it’s a real tearjerker.

Isn’t it just adorable!? From the animation, which is flawless, to the soundtrack, and finally the plot, In a Heartbeat is making our hearts swell.

“This film means a lot to us, and it touches on emotions that we hope will resonate with people from all different backgrounds,” Beth and Esteban said to Teen Vogue. “We are so grateful for all the support and enthusiasm we’ve received over the past few months; we started this project more than a year and a half ago and we’ve been waiting for this moment as much as everyone else has.”

People on Twitter also couldn’t handle just how cute the film is.

Since it was uploaded yesterday (July 31st), the film has already been watched way over 2 million times. We couldn’t be happier for Beth and Esteban, who have clearly put so much work and love into the project.

Hopefully, given the response the short film has gotten, major studios will take notice of the fact that LGBTQ stories should be told, and that no matter your sexual identity, people can relate to those first flushes of love.
