Michelle Obama Just Wore a Really Great Wrap Coat

The former First Lady appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show wearing Zero + Maria Cornejo.

During her time in office, Michelle Obama became well-known for dressing in pieces that were always polished, elegant, and on-theme (she often—and appropriately—wore designers who were based in, or originally from, the locations that she was visiting on her global tours). This fashion message has, of course, continued on well after Obama’s tenure as the First Lady. Today, she appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote her new memoir, Becoming, and for the occasion, Obama chose a modern take on the wrap coat from New York–based designer Zero + Maria Cornejo.

The cropped wrap jacket was fitted with a subtle ribboned belt. She paired it with the label’s cropped pants, which came in the same striped jacquard. It was a look that made the case for heightened casualwear, something Obama has consistently nailed both on- and off-duty. She accessorized it with simple strappy sandals in black, and that helped elevate the whole ensemble.
