Monica Rambeau's Superhero Origin Story in 'WandaVision' Hints at the Powers of Photon

For all of the horrors in the newest episode of WandaVision—Wanda's twins going missing, a major villain reveal, and the creeping introduction of the multiverse—you might've forgotten that we saw a whole damn superhero origin story. One for none other than Monica Rambeau, who's played by Teyonah Parris in the show.
Other than setting up a third act that'll have massive MCU consequences, Episode Seven of WandaVision might have just set up Rambeau for a future as a big-ticket superhero. In a Modern-reminiscent episode, Rambeau sets out to just... drive a very large truck into the Hex. When the Hex quite literally spits out the vehicle, Rambeau figures it easier to just get out and waltz right in. But it's not that easy. As she forces her way in, we see her body split and glow, with something clearly happening to her. When she finally enters the Hex, her eyes start glowing blue. So yeah. Something definitely happened. Let's get you up to speed on what the comics say are in store for Rambeau's future.
First of all, remember that Kevin Feige confirmed that this is the same Monica Rambeau we met in Captain Marvel as a bright-eyed child. In the comics, though, she grows up to have superpowers of her own, fighting alongside Carol Danvers as a hero named Photon. As with every other Marvel hero nowadays, her main powers include shooting energy out of her hands. While in the comics, it's an extra-dimensional weapon that gives Rambeau her powers, it looks like the MCU had slightly different plans. Rambeau grows up to be a S.W.O.R.D. agent, and when we meet her in WandaVision, her mission is to clean up whatever mess Wanda is making in her alternate reality—and wake her up from it. Then, the Hex finally gives Rambeau those comic-book powers.
Going forward, you can put money on Rambeau and Wanda going to blows, which Episode Seven teased. Regardless of what happens there, we'll likely pick back up with Rambeau in Captain Marvel 2, considering her history with Brie Larson-played hero. With Rambeau all super-powered, it wouldn't be crazy to think that they'll fight alongside each other. Before then, though, they might fight each other first. WandaVision hints that there was some kind of falling out between the two women, but doesn't really elaborate. Regardless? We just want to see those powers in action by WandaVision's end.
