Chloe Lukasiak and her mom Christi may have made a dramatic exit from Dance Moms back in 2014, but the young starlet has been doing just fine. She even made a surprise return to the show three seasons later to dance alongside friends Nia Sioux, Kendall Vertes, and Kalani Hilliker as a member of The Irreplaceables team, lead by Cheryl Burke. But just like Maddie Ziegler and many of her former dance mates, Chloe is setting her eyes on new projects — including college. Now 18, Chloe is working on establishing her brand, filming fun YouTube videos, and preaching positivity.

Why did Chloe leave Dance Moms?

From the start of Dance Moms, Chloe was painted as second-best to Abby Lee Miller’s long standing favorite dancer, Maddie Ziegler. At the time, the two were frequently pitted against each other, fueling drama for the show. Chloe’s mom also seemed to continually be at odds with Abby, resulting in the particularly tough treatment of young Chloe while she was a part of the show.

"I don’t want anyone to think I’m not grateful for that experience," Chloe said in a Youtube video titled "10 Dance Moms Secrets." "I am incredibly grateful for it. However, it was a really hard time for me. Probably the hardest thing I’ve ever been through.”

The breaking point came during a season four episode titled, "Hollywood Here We Come, Part 2” when Christi and Abby exchanged heated words. The dialogue was reportedly edited for the show’s airing, but Christi and her fellow cast members have said that the final straw came when Abby made fun of Chloe’s medical condition, silent sinus syndrome, which caused of her eyes to appear smaller and slightly shut. She has since had surgery to help with the condition.

After her tearful exit, Chloe continued to pursue her passion for dance by joining Pittsburgh’s Studio 19 and later switching to Dance Mechanics in Allison Park, PA. To the surprise of fans, the teen was reunited with her original Dance Moms pals in season seven when she returned to work with new coach and Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke.

“I really didn’t even think I was leaving [season four],” Chloe told People in 2017. “I figured we would go back the next season, and then I left and I never came back. It felt very unfinished for me, I needed closure.”

Where is Chloe Lukasiak now?

Chloe makes a living as a model and actress, appearing in the sci-fi movie F.R.E.D.I and the made-for-TV movie Center Stage: On Point. She has a successful Youtube channel with more than 1.9 million subscribers and posts videos showing viewers into her world, teaching them her favorite makeup routines and sharing what she’s been up to.

In January 2018, the dancing teen also released a book called Girl on Pointe: Chloe's Guide to Taking on the World with tips on how to lead a happy and healthy life, navigate bullying, project kindness, and take control of your goals and dreams. It’s fitting, considering she also has her own book club with Barnes and Noble.

What’s next for Chloe Lukasiak?

Though the former reality star only attended traditional public school until eighth grade, that’s not stopping her from pursuing higher education. In a recent Instagram post, Chloe announced that she will be attending Pepperdine University in Malibu, California starting fall 2019.
