This Museum Will Help You Find Your Doppelganger
A new project from the Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City could just help you find your sculpture twin.
The exhibition "My 2000-Year-Old-Double" will match people's faces with those of some 60 Greco-Roman and Egyptian works, all taken from the collections of the Musée d’art et d’histoire de Genève and the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art.
Entrants from across the globe are welcome to submit their photos via the Musée de la civilisation's website for analysis.
Using 123 facial landmark points, the facial recognition software Betaface API will then scan your features to generate a template that can be compared to those of the statues. Cool, right?
From the photos submitted, the museum will select thirty pairs to showcase at the exhibition, running from October 24, 2018, to October 27, 2019. The selected participants will be captured by Quebec photographer François Brunelle, whose work centers around doubles.
Brunelle's portraits along with the ancient works will be paired side by side to show the symmetry between the two.
Even if yours doesn't get selected, you'll at least have the satisfaction of knowing how your face matches up with some of the greats, from gods like Aphrodite and Apollo to royalty like Faustina the Younger and Augustus.
Not many people can say that.
