Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's cabinet will discuss fuel prices again on Wednesday despite a recent fall in prices driven by government pressure on traders to align prices with levels elsewhere in the region, the economy minister said. Orban's government scrapped a fuel price cap in December 2022 after a lack of imports and panic buying led to shortages, but earlier this year raised the possibility of another intervention if fuel prices exceed the central European average. Shares in Hungarian energy group MOL have fallen about 1% since the government first floated the idea of a fuel market intervention last month, underperforming the Budapest benchmark index, which scaled record highs this week.

The U.S. Army soldier arrested in Russia last week is being held in a pretrial detention facility waiting for a hearing, the Army said Tuesday. Staff Sgt. Gordon Black flew to Russia to see his girlfriend, according to U.S. officials, and the Army confirmed Tuesday that he had not sought clearance for the international travel and it was not authorized by the Defense Department. Under Pentagon policy, service members must get clearance for any international travel from a security manager or commander and that was not done.

Brazil floods death toll rises to 90, dozens still stranded
Rescuers rushed to evacuate people stranded by devastating floods across the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul on Tuesday, with 90 reported dead and desperate survivors seeking food and basic supplies. On the outskirts of Eldorado do Sul, 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) from the state capital of Porto Alegre, many people who left their homes were sleeping on the roadside and told Reuters they were going hungry.
