Shawn Johnson on being a quarantined mom and wife

Yahoo Sports Olympics analyst Shawn Johnson takes us behind the scenes to show you how she balances exercise, cooking, family and being a mom to a baby.

Video Transcript

SHAWN JOHNSON: This is my life as a quarantined mom. Considering we spend every waking second with each other, my husband and I wake up. We definitely take shifts now with the baby because the husband will go have his time. And then I will have my time.

But I'll get her up in the morning, feed her breakfast, make my breakfast and coffee, hand her over to Dad. He'll put her down for a nap. I'll go work out in some way, shape, or form in the house or run laps around the house.

And then my husband I will switch. He'll go work out. I'll take the baby. And it's just like this back and forth exchanging of baby time all day until we go to bed. But we can't be together too much throughout the day. Otherwise, husband and wife go completely crazy.

It is me and my husband, our daughter. And then my mom and my dad actually come over to our house every day. We've been quarantined for two weeks. My parents have been quarantined completely for two weeks.

And so they still-- we still come back and forth between houses. We're like quarantined cars to and from each other's homes. But we at least get some, like, Grandma and Grandpa time for Drew, and then kind of just help each other out with staying sane.

We did a board game yesterday on YouTube Live and actually played with all the people, like, following us. And we've been doing like, bake cookies with us over Instagram Live. Let's have a question and answer. Let's vent about everything going on. We've really been trying to keep the community just, I guess, positive and distracted.

Drew is probably the better cook. [LAUGHS] He's definitely like, the grill master. He's currently sous vide-ing steaks for us tonight. Yeah, he's gotten pretty fancy with it.

Honestly, staying active in the house-- I would-- I would try if you can-- it's different if you're a single mom or a single parent-- but try to put the baby down for a nap and have just your time. So whether it's doing push ups or walking laps around the kitchen, just doing something active kind of helps stir your blood and make it so you don't feel like, stir crazy.

Or if you can, get out of the house. So don't go be around people. But whether it's a workout in your driveway, but getting some fresh air really, I think, helps me a lot.
